I had an opportunity to sit down with @kunbiesq for an episode on her @launchthatish podcast, and baby.

First of all, the tea was hot as soon as we started the call that we both said "We'd better start recording".

You know Kunbi is literally one of my favorite people ( I actively campaign for the stealing of her children. Some call it kidnapping, I call it coparenting, Kunbi calls it peace and quiet).

It was a great episode about charging your worth, avoiding costly mistakes and truly knowing who you are. When Kunbi said this, I immediately wanted throw a shoe. So many of us overlook how emotional and financial expenses tally up when we want a job, take on a client, create a new service or engage in a new collaboration and as a result end up underpricing...or worse, not charging at all.

AHT, AHT AHT! You weren't doing all that crying and carrying on when you were singing and dancing...

We all get hit with things we may not necessarily be ready for in business-- the more prepared we are, the better we can recover. This is why it is important to think about the implications of decisions and actions as a whole instead of what it looks (or feels) like on the surface level...

Ask yourself...

❓Should I book this client even though I don't have experience with what they are asking for?

❓What do I need in place things go wrong before, during or after an event?

❓Who should I have in place in case I need help or someone doesn't show up?

❓What is the next move when the bookings slow or stop?

❓How do I readjust when what I sold can no longer happen or is affecting my peace and profitability?

We never think of having contingency plans in place until we're in the middle of the storm. This is your encouragement right now to stop and think of all situations in the past where things went FUBAR and start developing your plans.

Start Contingency Planning:

❗️Plan when you're happy. You'll be clearer and level headed than trying to fight your way out of a situation.

❗️Develop an "if this, then that approach" so that you can anticipate your next move in all circumstances.

❗️Create a "Board of Directors"-- a circle of colleagues that you trust in different markets and with different levels of experience who can provide feedback from all angles. They can review your plans, give counsel or step in and help when the shxt hits the fan.

❗️Know the cost of your plan-- either for you or your client. Whether this is an emotional or financial cost, have a complete understanding of what it takes to implement and fix.

❗️Practice communicating your plan so that it can be delivered succinctly and confidently.
